Repeating Pattern
This is a skull pattern I illustrated and designed for skaters. The parameters of this project were to utilize the Fibonacci sequence in the pattern’s construction and follow the inspiration of an artistic movement while maintaining appeal for its target audience. I researched and sketched various imagery relating to the skating theme, confining it to the restraints of the Fibonacci sequence. I then took the pattern into Illustrator to complete. This pattern was applied to various pieces of apparel such as shoes, a backpack, and socks which I photographed and Photoshopped myself. This pattern reflects the skater style with the skull and mushroom imagery, which is recurring among other skating apparel. Pop art influence can be seen through the use of vibrant colours, bold outlines, and halftone dots. One challenge I faced during this project was staying within the constraints of the Fibonacci numbers. I used the Fibonacci numbers in creative orientations to keep my design in line with the sequence. For instance, I built out the mushrooms using circles based on the Fibonacci numbers. During this project, I learned some great Photoshop techniques to realistically edit designs onto apparel and other objects.
