Pale Horse Pattern Application

This illustrated graphic of a horseman (Death on a Pale Horse) was created based on the Fibonacci sequence. Nearly every component—including body parts, accessories, the background, and the moon and clouds—utilizes shapes, numbers, and proportions pulled from the golden ratio. It was easy to go overboard trying to fit in more Fibonacci details, which eventually complicated the design. Originally it was of all four horsemen, but it became a much stronger piece when it was reduced to just one figure.

The "goth pop” illustration style and theme is aimed at the teenage crowd. The colour scheme was dictated by the subject matter; black for the Death character, a complementary off-white for the moon, skull, and horse eyes, a sickly green for the pale horse, and a complementary blood red for the background. When the original illustration was completed in Adobe Illustrator, it was turned into a repeating pattern in the same software.
