Booze n’ Shoes:
A Shoes and Cocktail Pairing Book

This individual project is a pairing book for two dissimilar things that can go well together. The goal was to create an interesting book that provides instructions or steps to create something for enjoyment and leisure. The project required the use of personal photography, type and layout to make it effective using InDesign and Lightroom. The concept and individual pairings I decided on through brainstorming, mind mapping and concept development was pairing shoes with cocktails. Moving forward, I used items I had at home to create photography that related to my pairings.

Getting inspiration from my love of shoes and the diverse styles there is, I took the approach of a fun, playful theme. To convey this, I chose a bold, elongated, curly typeface and bright colours. Pairing this with a simple curved sans serif in a grey colour helps to balance and soften the overall feeling through the book. The use of colour and hierarchy helps to guide the viewers through the page and the colour block along the bottom of the pages helps guide the viewer off or into the next page. Some challenges I faced through this project was balancing the bright colours in a way that they didn’t become overwhelming or distracting with too much contrast. I overcame this by incorporating a neutral accent colour and softening blocks of text to a toned black.
